BRED TO WORK BORN TO LOVE
Maintenance of Our Kennel
Our dogs are maintained in different size pens. With LOTS of shade and water. Generally, 1 or 2 dogs are
maintained in each pen.  Our males are maintained in pens separate from the females (except for short
periods of time for breeding purposes). Everyone has there own dog house. Pens are thoroughly raked,  and
mowed each week. They are cleaned two to three times a day. Our dogs do not live out doors year around
they do come in our home. We have house broke every one of our dogs so we would be able to bring them in.
We also have a 50 x 50 run that every one gets a few hours a day to romp and play in. Our children love to go
out there and play chase with the dogs . But the dogs are always faster then the children. In the summer I
hose our dogs down plus each day. If its hot I hose them down a couple times a day. Each of the dogs pen has
a 40 gallon black tub in it so they can get into it if they get hot. And our dog  run also has one in it. They are
giving fresh water several times a day . All of our dogs have feeders so they have food at all times . Our
feeders are refilled every two days. They are checked daily.
Nutrition and Veterinary Care. Our adult dogs are fed Pro Plan large breed dog food
and also Iams food. Additionally, each dog receives a PetTab (a vitamin supplement) and
Veterinary Formula ShedStop daily (a liquid vitamin supplement which helps to keep their
coats healthy and prevents excessive shedding).

We start our dogs on  (a heartworm preventative) at 4 months of age and monthly
thereafter. We use Bio-Spot and frontline for prevention of fleas/ticks on our adult dogs from
Spring through the first frost of the Winter season.

Our most common problem is biting flies and, for repellent and treatment thereof, VIP fly
repellent/antibiotic suaveor flys off  is applied to the tips of our dogs' ears and the tops of
the dogs nose. During late-Spring/early-Summer. We also use sterling rescue! Fly trap it
has no pesticides. Its a bag you can hang out side the kennels and the fly attractant lures
the flies to go into  the bag when the bag is full you just toss away.

We have a vet available 24/7 for emergencies. Our adult dogs are examined annually and
receive all necessary vaccinations at that time.  At the same time, a worming is administered
to each dog.

Training/Obedience. We  think obedience classes for new owners is the best thing to do.
It may be said of the Alaskan Malamute that negative attention is better than no attention - if
you fail to give adequate attention, YOU will pay the price!  Second, a well-behaved dog is
much more enjoyable than an ill-behaved one. The Alaskan Malamute is a very intelligent
dog and learns quickly, however, is easily bored and/or distracted and, therefore,
"obedience" sessions are best kept short to be effective.

OFA Certification. We purchased our dogs as puppies and verified at the time of our
purchase that the puppies' parents were OFA certified clear of hip dysplasia. Nevertheless,
dogs are OFA certified at 2 years of age.

DNA Profile. Our male dogs are DNA profiled in accordance with AKC regulations.

Identification of our adults: All our adults are microchipped with avid
microchipping.

Exercise. Exercise is VERY important. A variety of chew ropes and balls are always
available in the pens and in the dog run. The dogs are permitted to romp around in the dog
run  2-3 at a time for a couple of hours every day. and also while food is dispensed and
pens are being cleaned and everyone is getting new water.

NURSERY: we have a new nursery for our mothers and puppies  the nursery is secluded
from the other dogs which provides the mother with privacy and also protects them from
inclement weather. The nursery is cleaned daily. Our nursery has heat for the winter and
also air- conditioned for the hot summer days. We want to make sure our mothers and
puppies are comfortable.

Identification of Puppies.  We have implemented a system of identification by means of
AVID microchipping.  Puppies are microchipped at 2 weeks of age.  Upon delivery of a
puppy, the new "parents" will be provided a form for registration of their puppy (its microchip
#) with PetTrac for a nominal fee.  Also, AKC now offers a tracking system for puppies newly
registered with AKC.  In the event a puppy is lost and taken to a local shelter or veterinarian,
it may be identified via its microchip and its owners notified of its location so that the puppy
may be returned home safely.

We highly recommend that photographs of your puppy be taken periodically as it grows so
that, in the event your puppy is lost or stolen, a photograph is available to shelters,
veterinarians or law enforcement officials.
We encourage adoptive parents to e-mail photos periodically for posting. In the event an
adoptive parent needs a photograph e-mailed to shelters, vets, etc. To assist in finding a
lost puppy or dog that was originally purchased from us. We would be happy to do
everything we could to help you get your baby back.

Breeding. Generally, our females are bred once a year. The regularity of the breeding of
our females is WHOLLY dependent upon their health. We strongly believe that the overall
health of the female at conception is vital to her ease of whelping and to the puppies' health
at whelping. Therefore, the female is given ample opportunity to regain her health and
vitality after whelping and is bred again ONLY if our veterinarian, upon examination,
determines that she is in optimum health. In the past, we refused to breed our females (or
have puppies) during the months of June through September for the reason that the
summer heat and humidity is detrimental to the well-being of the females AND the puppies.
However, we now have an air-conditioned nursery to ensure that "our girls" and their
puppies are comfortable.
Once our females have been bred, they are removed from the males' pens and returned to
their own pens  The expectant mother-to-be is removed from her pen, bathed and moved to
the "nursery" 10-14 days before the anticipated whelping. The "nursery" is secluded from
the "general population" and provides the mother with privacy while whelping and caring for
her puppies and, at the same time, protects both the mother and the puppies from inclement
weather. The mother is exercised daily and provided fresh water and food twice daily. The
nursery is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected twice daily.

After whelping is completed, the mother is again thoroughly bathed and returned to her
puppies.  Once the puppies have been weaned, the mother is, again, bathed and returned
to her pen, alone, for a month. Thereafter, another female (of approximately the same age
and temperament) is placed in the pen with her for companionship and exercise.
